Boddingtons Pub Ale

Boddington Pub Ale is produced by Boddington & Co in Manchester, England and owned by super conglomerate, InBev, It’s distribution is world-wide, so you should easily be able to find the familiar yellow and black cans on shelves. A low 4.6% ABV, this is a golden ale with a smooth finish. If you pick up a pint-size can at your local grocer, you may notice a rattle similar to Guinness nitro. Boddingtons Pub Ale also has a pressure-trigged device in the can that lets off thousands of tiny bubbles when cracked open, generating and intense, creamy head. Nice touch.

Established in 1778, Boddingtons has a very odd history. It may be more famed for its bitters, which has a much lower ABV than the Pub Ale. But availability for Boddingtons Bitters was scarce in Portland, so I opted to test the Pub Ale.

I tested Boddingtons Pub Ale and was happy find that it passed as <5ppm. A very clear result with lines emerging over the “C’ and the “O” and no line over the “T”. To learn more about the test kits, see the test kits page

I tried this ale without any issues and mostly enjoyed the smoothness. While a tad watery, it was easy to drink. Pouring a pint is pretty entertaining as the head, driven by the Draughtflow system, is substantial.
